Log Cabin Layout
The Winchester is a quality log cabin which measures 5 metres wide, with 3 different depths available – 4m 4.5m and 5m. It has a large double door and two front facing windows which can be opened to provide ventilation.
It has no side windows, this is a very deliberate design consideration to cater for people that need to maximise wall-space and privacy.
If you’re looking for a cabin in this style, but which includes side windows, then the Montana log cabin probably ticks the right boxes, it’s almost identical to the Winchester, but includes two side windows.
Alpine Style Overhang
An overhang lends a distinctive style to this log cabin. It’s fair to say it wouldn’t look out of place nestled in the Austrian mountains. If schnapps or gluwein is your tipple this may be the ideal setting in which to partake.
Construction & Materials
Tongue and groove logs come in 28mm thickness as standard, but can be upgraded to 44mm for a charge. The floor is available in two thicknesses, 11mm or 19mm. The latter is recommended if you intend to place heavier items, such as gym equipment on the floor.
Contemporary or Georgian Style
In keeping with other BillyOh log cabins the windows and doors are available with a Georgian style effect at no extra charge
The windows are single glazed as standard but can be upgraded to double glazed, a sensible investment if you intend using this cabin in the colder months.
Additional Side Storage
If additional storage is on your list of requirements, a coordinated “lean to” is available. Buying this should help you save your log cabin from becoming a storage room.
The “lean-to” has an internal width of 1.496m and depth of 1.761m, plenty of space for a few bikes and a variety of gardening equipment. Or maybe somewhere to stash your ski’s and snowboards in the off season.
Alpine Style Ski Cabin
Shown below is the interior of a Winchester cabin which has embraced the alpine concept and been decorated in style, complete with ski’s and a snow covered mountain back-drop.
You could add a log burning stove into the other corner to keep yourself extra cosy in the winter months and complete the illusion.
Add a small drinks cabinet with some pastis, schnapps or other alpine beverage and invite your ski buddies over to reminisce about the time you snow-plowed down that double black diamond…
Home Gym in your Log Cabin
If you past-times are more aligned for gym time than ‘apres ski’ then the Winchester can be equipped as a back garden gym. My advice would be to choose the thicker floorboards to ensure that weights and running machines are comfortably supported.
Work out your space requirements and choose the appropriate size and you can use the ample wall space for gym routines, and some inspirational posters, or whatever takes your fancy.
Following on from the exercise theme, if you’ve ever practised martial arts to any extent you’ve probably fantasised about having your own dojo.
Having a fully fledged dojo in your back garden would be a great way to ensure you continue to practice your art and stay in shape. Whether it be Taekwondo, Kung Fu, Karate or Boxing.
A few well chosen accessories are all that’s required. Maybe a set of framed pictures of your choice and a suitably minimal paint job.
Throw in a punch bag and a wooden dummy along one side of the dojo. You could cover the floor with mats cheaply enough and you’re ready to go.
Again, the thicker floor boards are worth considering if you’re going to be practising flying kicks or putting stress through the floor.
On the outside add a few decorative lanterns hanging from the porch, some chimes gently swaying in the wind to add some atmosphere, maybe some bamboo fencing. Whatever your discipline, be it Aikido, Taekwondo or MMA, this is a project you could really get your teeth into. Take a closer look and think how you would kit it out.
As with all BillyOh garden buildings this is a well constructed product which should last you a lifetime. The option of side storage and other upgrades makes it versatile enough to serve as a gym, bar or garden office. Simply customise it to your requirements.
